Privacy Policy — DNS Changer

This Privacy Policy explains how the DNS Changer mobile application ("DNS Changer", "the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use it. By installing or using the App you agree to the practices described below.

1. Summary

DNS Changer is a privacy tool that lets you route your device's DNS lookups through a DNS server of your choice (including encrypted DNS over HTTPS / DNS over TLS), optionally block ads and trackers, and view network information.

We do not run our own servers that collect your browsing history or DNS queries. Your DNS query log and per-app settings stay on your device. The App does, however, use Google AdMob to show ads and contacts a small number of third-party services described below.

2. How the App works (VPN permission)

DNS Changer uses Android's VpnService API to create a local, on-device VPN purely so it can intercept DNS requests and forward them to your chosen DNS resolver.

The "VPN" runs entirely on your device. It is not a remote VPN tunnel.
We do not route, store, monitor, sell, or transmit your web traffic to our servers.
The VPN configuration is used only for DNS handling and, where enabled, for blocking known ad/tracker domains.

3. Information the App accesses

a) Data processed on your device only (not collected by us)

DNS query log — domains your device looks up while the service is running, shown in the in-app "Logs" screen. Stored locally and can be cleared by you at any time. It is not uploaded anywhere.
Selected DNS server and connection mode (Plain / DoH / DoT).
Per-app settings — which installed apps use the selected DNS. To show this list, the App reads the list of launchable applications on your device. This list is used only on-device to render the per-app control screen and is never transmitted off your device.
Network information — connection type (Wi-Fi / mobile), carrier, and local IP address, shown on the "Network" screen.

b) Data sent to third parties to provide features

DNS queries are necessarily sent to the DNS resolver you select (e.g. Google, Cloudflare, OpenDNS, AdGuard, Quad9, CleanBrowsing). Those providers process the queries under their own privacy policies. We do not control or receive that data.
Public IP address lookup — the "Network" screen retrieves your public IP from api.ipify.org so it can be displayed to you. The result is shown on-device and not stored by us.
Remote configuration — on startup the App downloads a small configuration file from our content delivery network (BunnyCDN, xanong.b-cdn.net) to determine ad settings. This is a normal HTTPS file download; standard server logs (such as IP address) may be recorded by the CDN provider.

c) Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App displays ads using the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob). AdMob may collect and process data including your device's advertising identifier (Advertising ID), approximate or coarse device/network information, and ad interaction data in order to serve and measure ads.

You can reset or limit ad personalization via your device settings ("Reset advertising ID" / "Opt out of Ads Personalization").

4. Permissions and why they are used

5. Data we collect, share, and sell

We, the developer, do not collect personal information on our own servers, do not require an account, and do not sell your personal data.
The only data leaving your device is described in Section 3(b)–(c): DNS queries to your chosen resolver, a public-IP lookup, a remote config download, and data processed by Google AdMob for advertising.

6. Data retention

On-device data (query log, settings, selected server) remains until you clear it in the App or uninstall the App.
Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
Data processed by third parties (DNS providers, ipify, BunnyCDN, Google AdMob) is retained according to their respective policies.

7. Children's privacy

DNS Changer is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads are served by Google AdMob and are not knowingly targeted to children.

8. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA and similar)

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to opt out of personalized advertising. Because we do not hold your personal data on our own servers, most data is controlled directly on your device or by the third parties listed above:

Advertising: reset/limit your Advertising ID in device settings, or use the consent controls shown by the App where applicable.
DNS query data: clear the in-app log or uninstall the App.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, within the App or store listing. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
